Awa Fam started her first WNBA game — and looked like everything the Storm hoped she would be when they selected her third overall in April.

Three days earlier, the Seattle Storm had rolled through the Washington Mystics 97-85, holding them to their second consecutive loss and making the result look almost routine. On Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, Washington made sure the Storm remembered that scorelines don't always reflect the full picture.

Awa Fam has been defying age-based expectations for most of her basketball life. At 15 years old, she became the youngest player in Valencia Basket history to appear in a professional game. On May 17th Fam and Valencia Basket won the LF Endesa title — Spain's top women's basketball championship — before she flew to Seattle to begin her WNBA career. On Saturday night in Seattle, the 19-year-old center checked another milestone off her list — her WNBA debut.
